Advancing Rail Safety: TÜV SÜD & imc on Reliable Measurement Solutions

What to expect 

In this imc webinar, André Rohrbeck—Team Lead Measuring Wheelsets, shares insights into how TÜV SÜD—one of Europe’s leading independent testing, inspection, and certification (TIC) organizations—supports manufacturers, operators, and regulatory authorities in the rail sector. TÜV SÜD plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and operational efficiency of rail vehicles and infrastructure throughout their lifecycle. 

The session will highlight the key challenges TÜV SÜD faces in testing wheel–rail interaction using instrumented wheelsets to measure forces between the wheel and rail. These measurements are performed under extreme operating conditions, including high vibration levels, significant temperature variations, high-pressure water spray, high levels of dust and moisture, high-speed operation of up to 300 km/h, and electromagnetic interference. Such factors place considerable demands on measurement systems and the reliability of the collected data. 

Together with our Strategic Product Manager Telemetry and Sensor — Florian Sailer, a telemetry solution developed for TÜV SÜD’s use case will be presented, explaining how reliable data acquisition in harsh environments can be achieved. This example illustrates how imc develops and adapts measurement solutions to meet complex, application-specific customer requirements.
